[Story] Beginning

These Story articles are aimed to tell you more about the challenges we had to face during the production. My name is Stéphane Montel and I directed the trailer and supervised its production with my colleague Mhamed Elmezoued. Both of us are co-founder of Capsule Studio. Prior to that, we acted as CG Artists and Supervisor in several companies in Paris. In June 2013, we decided to fill the spare time between commercial projects by working on a personal one.

Having not specifically an idea in mind, we decided to partner with a game development studio in Paris : Ragequit Corporation. The deal is simple, they let us use their IP to build a trailer while keeping in mind the production constraints : no money, we work on our spare time, etc.

At this time, Ragequit is a small company of four members who are working hard on their first independent game : Strike Vector. For a year they have been living on their savings and working full time on the project. The feeling is good between us and the game looks awesome. We agreed to build them a CG Teaser of about 30 seconds. The delivery date is set for the beginning of 2014 (around February or March) according to the released date of the game.

The first step has been to suggest them different scenarios. I provided five different pitches and in the end of July we all agreed on one of them. The first pre-production tasks began in August : shotlist and storyboard that are essential to clearly communicate the concept of the film and recruiting a team…

Stéphane Montel.
